The WordPress prompt of the day is “If you could relive one day from your past, which day would it be and why?”
I am going to cheat and choose two, mainly because it is impossible to choose between them.
I have four siblings, ages 24, 20, 10, and 7. As you can see, there is a sizeable gap between the first two and last two. Indeed, when I was young I thought it would always be the three of us. It never occurred to me that our family wasn’t done growing. I saw a lot more of my siblings too, then in most families, since they were homeschooled and I was cyber schooled. So we grew pretty close.
When I learned my mother was pregnant again after ten years, I was so shocked I felt faint. I couldn’t believe it. I knew this would change our lives and alter our futures, and after the initial surprise, I was excited.
On the day my second youngest sister was born, I was at a black belt camp, surreptitiously sneaking glances at my phone for updates. We were not supposed to be on our phones even between the day’s training sessions, so I held my phone in my bag and pretended to be rifling around in there for something else. At the end of the black belt camp, I proudly showed the picture of my new baby sister to other attendees and my instructors. I was so unbelievably happy. Then getting to hold her in my arms was the best feeling.
So that is one of the days I would gladly relive.
A couple years later my mom got the family together for another announcement. Looking at her shining eyes, it reminded me of her expression the day she told me my third sibling would be born. I guessed at her news so I didn’t feel as shocked, but I was just as excited.
In the winter, another perfect little girl was born, my fourth sibling. It was finals week and I was studying frantically and stressed about tests, but I insisted on coming home to see the newest addition to our family. I was able to put my thoughts of college aside to enjoy holding that sweet little babe.
So there you have it. The two days would be the day each of my youngest siblings was born.
