Who is your favorite cartoon character?

It was far too hard to choose just one favorite cartoon character, so I picked my top three! (Expect mild spoilers for Avatar: The Last Airbender, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, and The Owl House.)

Toph Beifong is from Avatar: The Last Airbender and is a 12 year old Earth bender of great skill, meaning she can control earth to fight or defend herself. She is the perfect person to teach Aang, the main character, her elemental powers, but it doesn’t seem so at first because she is strict and challenges him in a way he hasn’t dealt with before. She’s blind and uses her Earth bending skills to sense vibrations in the ground to navigate her surroundings. Her sense of humor is top tier and her sometimes bad attitude makes her difficult to get along with at times. People often underestimate her to their detriment. I love the badass disabled rep and her well-developed character.

I haven’t watched the original She-Ra from the 80s and suspect I wouldn’t like it as much, but She-Ra and The Princesses of Power is one of my favorite shows of all time, and Catra is the best character in it, in my opinion. The main character Adora and Catra were best friends when they were both part of the Horde, an evil group intent on taking over the world. Adora thought she was on the side of good until she saw the effects the Horde had on the world. After Adora leaves, Catra is devastated and slowly loses control, feeling betrayed. She is a character of such depth and nuance, and watching her growth from beginning to end was awesome.

Amity Blight, the enemy turned love interest, is another one of my favorites. Watching her change from a school bully to a better and happier person was a treat. Her budding feelings for Luz, her fractured friendship with Willow, and her strained relationship with her parents, all make for an interesting story. Once she understands that she doesn’t have to be Little Miss Perfect all the time, she grows as a person.
