How many measured tears would it take
To ransom my heart back
Cups upon cups, oceans mothered forth
From red eyes and directionless supplication
Tears mingling with water down the shower drain, whisked away unnoticed by the wide world.
Gallons? Surely I could give gallons to win back the heart of my beloved, if not mine own.
How many tears could bring back the soulmate days, when we both said the worst pain we could experience was losing each other?
Will the tears ever end? Will my love ever shrivel and die, eyes empty and dry?
Does grief ever leave or does it linger in the doorways of the heart, contaminating the lifeblood?
The bridge to you is gone, smashed away by a final wuthering gust.
It’s my own fault, thinking I could ford water with water, that my tears mean more than briny liquid leaking.
Farewell then, darling of my heart, farewell.
